GREENDALE CRESCENT SPARK ROAD REHABILITATION

Road works have started along Greendale Crescent within the St Andrew North Western constituency. This is the 2nd of 10 roads which will be rehabilitated under the Government of Jamaica's Spark Project.

Residents are asked to expect delays and minor inconveniences as the team works as quickly as possibly to have the rehabilitation done. Unlike patching projects, the Spark Programme will see significantly more equipment and materials being used on the roadways. This may mean more time and more nuisances during the process. The result will however, significantly improve the commuter experience and the surface of the road being used by residents and other constituents.

Spark Programme

The Shared Prosperity through Accelerated Improvement to our Road Network (SPARK) Programme is a transformative, government-led initiative aimed at revitalizing Jamaica’s road infrastructure to enhance connectivity, safety, and economic growth across the island. With a budget of J$45 billion over two years, SPARK is one of the largest investments in Jamaica’s road and water infrastructure in recent history. Below is a comprehensive overview of the programme to keep you informed about its goals, components, and expected impact.

Jamaica’s road network, particularly secondary, parochial, and community roads, has faced significant deterioration due to years of underinvestment and environmental challenges. The SPARK Programme was launched to address these issues, with the primary goal of improving the quality of life for Jamaicans by ensuring safer, more reliable roads. The programme aligns with the Government of Jamaica’s vision for enhanced economic growth and social development by improving access to essential services such as education, healthcare, and markets.

As stated by Prime Minister, Dr. the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, “The SPARK project is not just about upgrading roads; it’s about transforming the lives of people. Better roads mean better travel, reduced transportation costs, and improved access to jobs, education, and health.”
